Out of curiosity with the original HDD still connected via USB I rebooted to snow leopard from it. Seems like were going backwards instead of making progress.

Ěfter following Microsoft suggestions deleting files etc, instead of being prompted for a licence number I was prompted to reinstall office.

I found some instructions from Microsoft (below) and connected the original HDD up externally to transfer files, again the only file I could not locate was: .plist

Ğverything booted as expected (much faster).

I proceeded to swap out the HDD and put the SSD internally:

I could not locate any file called: “.plist” I did locate “” but none that contained “license”. ěack on the SSD I followed steps to locate and copy over the following plist file from library/preferences on the HDD.I then rebooted to the internal HDD to verify office was still working with the original hardware and it was.Transfer was successful apps work as expected with office 2011 being the exception.Once up and running from the SSD I used Migration Assistant to move apps only to the SSD.The mac rebooted after installation and I set it up as a new mac. Wiped the SSD and installed El Capitan to it.HDD with snow leopard running internal, SSD external USB I got it to work as expected except for office 2011, it keeps prompting for a licence number which I don’t have on hand.
